Field Guide
Outbound Wildlife
The Wildlife Update added 34 species and a camera to photograph them with. The journal files each one under a biome, and a shot only counts once the animal fills enough of the frame. Every animal is listed here with the biome it belongs to and the number of spots it can turn up at.

Photographing wildlife in Outbound
- How many animals are there in Outbound?
- 34, added in the Wildlife Update. The journal splits them by biome: Starting Level 12, Pacific Coast 8, Canyons 7, Mountains 7.
- How do you get the camera in Outbound?
- The Photo Camera blueprint is a download in the Starting Level, and the camera itself is crafted from 3x Scrap Metal.
- Why does a photo not count?
- The animal has to fill a minimum share of the frame before the shot registers, and the bar is set per species. Each species page lists its own, so zoom in or get closer if a picture will not log.
- Where do the animal locations come from?
- They are read out of the game's level files. Most are exact: the object that places the animal points straight at the species. Spawn areas carry no such link, so those are matched by name within their biome and marked as unconfirmed on each species page.
