Where it is placed
Read out of the level files. A perch or an individually placed animal names its species directly. A roaming area does not, so those are matched by the area's own name within its biome.
Canyons
2- 2x Roaming area
2 of these come from roaming areas, which name no species in the files.
Open map →0 of 2 placements name this species outright; the rest are inferred from the area name.
