Where Is the Ferry in Outbound?
Three locations matter for the ferry: the Dry Dock in the Canyons where the broken ferry waits for repairs, and the two ferry docks it serves on the Pacific Coast and in the Mountains. The journal marks the Dry Dock as "The docked Ferry (broken)" until the repair is complete.

How Do You Repair the Ferry?
The repair is a two-part quest at the Dry Dock: "Repair the Ferry's motor at the Dry Dock" followed by "Repair the transport balloons at the dry dock". Bring Wrench II - every interaction in the chain requires it.
Step 1: Repair the Motor
The motor sits at the back of the docked ferry. The interaction is labeled "Repair the Motor" and consumes:

Step 2: Craft Three Transport Balloons
Once the motor runs, three transport balloon frames around the Dry Dock unlock. Each balloon costs the same:

With all three balloons attached, the ferry lifts off from the Dry Dock and returns to service. This is an airship, not a boat - it leaves the dock straight up.

The repaired ferry serves the game's two ferry docks: the Pacific Coast dock at coordinates 66, 123 and the Mountains dock at 867, 174. The Mountains journey begins at that dock - the region's starting spawn sits right on it, and entering the dock area unlocks the hidden Up the Mountains achievement.
Before the repair, the Pacific Coast dock only holds a posted note: the ferry is "currently out for repairs", signed by The Merry Ferry Team. The journal description of the Dry Dock spells out the destination - the ferry "is built for the coast and will soon carry travelers to new islands".
